Education: University of Minnesota

Practicing Since: 1983

I grew up in Sparta, Wisconsin on a small farm where my family raised and showed American Quarter Horses. My love for Veterinary Medicine grew from that and blossomed while volunteering and working at area veterinary hospitals while in college. I attended the University Of Minnesota College Of Veterinary Medicine, graduated in 1983 & have been practicing in the Chicagoland area since that time, both as an associate veterinarian and practice owner. Some of you may know me from the times I provided relief coverage at Oakton for Dr. Ephraim over the past 5 years. I am glad to be a part of the team at Oakton Animal Hospital and want to provide the highest level of compassionate care for our clients and “VIPs” (very important pets/patients). Although I enjoy all aspects of practice, I have a special interest in dentistry and surgery.

I live at home with my husband and Bailey (a.k.a. Mr. B), a 12 year old Yorkie Poo. In my spare time I can be found out in the garden, relaxing with a good book, out paddling in a kayak/canoe or in the kitchen preparing a gourmet meal. We are also avid baseball fans and enjoy “chasing” – Our current goal is to see all 30 current major league baseball parks.

Practice Manager

Practicing Since: 2009

Hi, my name is Jeannie and I have been the Practice Manager of Oakton Animal Hospital since April 1st, 2019. I’ve spent the majority of my life in management and training positions ranging from the restaurant industry, to human medicine, industrial hygiene and, of course, veterinary medicine. I graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Biological Illustration in 2002.

My husband Jason and I live locally in my family home where I grew up and share our home with 2 cats and 2 dogs. Pandora (12) and Mowgli (9) are our fat black cats and their favorite pastimes include eating and taunting Senna, our 9-year-old pit bull. Gnocchi, our 7-year-old Frenchie, and Senna came to us at about the same time, became fast friends, and are now inseparable.

When I’m not here taking care of your fur baby I love spending time with my family, singing in the church choir, traveling, reading, gardening, painting and drawing. I welcome all suggestions and I strive to make every experience our clients and patients at Oakton Animal Hospital be the best it can be!

Assistant Manager

Practicing Since: 2014

Hi! My name is Kristin. I’ve been working here at Oakton Animal Hospital since 2015 and have been working in the veterinary field since 2014. My love of animals started when I was really small and stuck with me for the rest of my life. I am a graduate of Harper College as a Certified Veterinary Assistant. I have 2 cats at home, Styx and Rhea. They are the furry loves of my life. Since coming to Oakton I have made my way from being a veterinary assistant tech to becoming the assistant manager. I still love doing all the tech work we do and meeting new clients and patients and re-seeing my long time furry friends. 🙂

Hi, I’m Carlos. My love for Veterinary Medicine began early in my life while taking care of several pets together with my brother and sister. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and obtained a DVM degree from UNPHU University in Santo Domingo in 2015. Prior to my graduation from college I worked as a veterinary assistant and after graduation was a Professor of Veterinary Medicine at Columbia Central University in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Oakton Animal Hospital is the ideal place to put my knowledge and experience into practice, the place I’d certainly bring my own pets for care.

Hi, everyone! Ever since adopting my Border Collie mix Kina in 2011, I fell in love with the field of veterinary medicine. It’s driven me to gain experience working different roles in various animal hospitals including: kennel attendant, receptionist, veterinary assistant, and veterinary technician. Along with my dog Kina, I have a Yorkie Pom named Coco, and two cats named Remy LeBeau and Dain Ironfoot. Both inside and outside the workplace, I pride myself in being an LGBTQ ally and hope for a more compassionate, inclusive world.

Hello, my name is Kathy! I have been with Oakton Animal Hospital for almost a year and a half. Oakton is like a second home to me and the team is my extended family. I love trying new things and going to new places but my favorite thing to do is help our furry friends and their parents. I have previously worked with exotic pets but my true passion is for Pomeranians! I have one of my own named Luna, but that doesn’t mean I won’t try to keep yours (just kidding!). I cannot wait to meet you and your furry four legged kiddo and show you just how great we are as a family here at Oakton!

Hi my name is Kim. I began working at Oakton Animal Hospital in 1990 and left a few years later to pursue a career in human x-ray technology. In the fall of 2010, I returned to Oakton. All along, I had been a client here bringing my pets to a hospital I had worked at before and trusted with my furry friends. I enjoy working here on Saturdays now. I really love animals. I have a dog named Gatorade and my new addition is an 18 year old pony named Santa Fe.

Hi, my name is Mary and I have been part of the Oakton Team since November of 2021. I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology back in 2019 from Illinois State. I have always loved animals, and in my senior year of college, I took a class about the benefits of positive reinforcement training in dogs. Working with pet owners in the community and their dogs helped me realize that I wanted to pursue a career in animal welfare. I have previously worked in Animal Shelters before coming to Oakton as a Veterinary Receptionist. I am excited to get to know both you and your fur babies!

Practicing Since: 2016

Hi, I’m Yesenia! Since I was a little girl I always showed love and compassion for all animals, which motivated me years later to study for an associate degree in Veterinary Technology. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Currently, I have 3 pets that I love with all my heart: Nash (bearded dragon), Moana (Sulcata tortoise) and Mr. Whiskers (Chinchilla). Being in this practice has been a professional booster and I have had the good fortune to meet my beautiful patients that I adore with all my heart. Be assured that your furry baby will be in the best hands.
